What is Reflexology?

History
Reflexology as a therapy is both old and new. In ancient history, pressure therapies were recognized as preventive and therapeutic. Foot massage has been practiced by a variety of cultures and it is generally believed that its roots date as far back as 5000 years ago in China. Because of the dedication of practitioners worldwide, reflexology has developed into a respected and effective healing therapy.
Difference between Reflexology and Foot Massage
The Therapeutic Reflexologist relies on the use of very specific finger, thumb and hand pressure techniques which can have therapeutic effects in other parts of the body. Appropriate health care advice is offered regarding conscious lifestyle choices to facilitate the activation the body’s healing potential. A Therapeutic Reflexologist identifies imbalances in the health of the patient by observing and feeling a number of things. These are understood as signs of emotional as well as physical wellness (or lack thereof). They include colours on the feet and nails, texture, tone, moisture, shape of the feet, and markings. With the use of specific pressure techniques therapists are able to pick up congestion and imbalances through, for example, tightness, sensitivity, granular areas. The feet and/or hands tell a story about the total wellness of the patient and the therapist’s observation is always done so in the entire context of the person’s emotional and physical health. A foot massage, on the other hand, makes use of soothing oil or lotion and slow, firm, gentle, gliding strokes all over the foot. This serves as a pamper or feel good service rather than a means to addressing health care and maintenance.
Practice of reflexology
Evidence has been found to suggest the practice of reflexology in Egypt, North America, Japan, East India, Arabic and Grecian countries as well as in primitive African communities. The connection between the feet and wellness or harmony is, for example, suggested in:-
· Buddha’s upturned foot, used to represent his entire being;
· symbols painted on the soles of the Hindu god, Lord Vishnu;
· pictographs in Egyptian tombs;
· and the belief of the Cherokee Indians in the significance of the feet connecting the earth and its energies to mankind.

Treatment Time?
A treatment usually lasts between 40 minutes and 1 hour. Bodytique also offers iridology with there reflexology session. Prices is 1 treatment R100 , courses of four – R300.
Benefits of Reflexology?Reflexology has many benefits. It feels good. It is pleasant and soothing, and it relaxes the body. Each person responds to a reflexology in a unique way and on occasions may experience a variety of short term reactions, for example, extreme relaxation, tiredness, lethargy or tearfulness. Reflexology is not a ‘cure-all’. However, reflexology does help releive pain associated with migraine, sinus problems, breathing disorders, digestive problems, circulatory problems, back problems, tension, and stress.

WHAT IS PERMANENT MAKE UP?

WHAT IS PERMANENT MAKE UP?
Permanent makeup, also known as micro pigmentation, is a method of inserting small amounts of pigment into the upper layer of the skin in order to enhance a woman's features. It is a soft and natural enhancement or correction of a persons natural features. The application will last for approximately 5 - 8 yrs.
This state-of-the art procedure has been used by models, actors, and entertainers as a means of enhancing their appearance. Beyond the mere aesthetic value, with the savings in time, money, and daily frustration, it is easy to see why permanent cosmetics have been called the "makeup of the future."
The field of Permanent Cosmetics is rapidly expanding in popularity. Many women in all stages of life are having their eyebrows, eyeliner and lips coloured permanently. Women all over the country are learning of the benefits of having Permanent make up. What could be better than to wake up looking as good in the morning as you did in the evening?

WHO BENEFITS FROM PERMANENT MAKE UP?
WOMEN Who want to look their best all the time, even when they wake up.
MOTHERS And other busy professionals who DON'T HAVE TIME for conventional makeup.
PHYSICALLY ACTIVE People who want to look their best throughout activities such as swimming, hiking, biking, tennis, aerobics, and don't want to worry about "sweating off" or reapplying cosmetics.
ALLERGIES and SENSITIVE SKIN Some people often can't wear other cosmetics so permanent makeup is the ideal alternative.
VISION IMPAIRED People who have difficulty applying their cosmetics.
MOTOR IMPAIRED Including arthritics, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke survivors, and those with unsteady hands who cannot apply their own makeup.
ENTERTAINERS, ACTRESSES, and MODELS Who have to look good ALL the time and have no time for conventional makeup.
ALOPECIA Sufferers who have lost some or all of their facial hair, including eyebrows and/or eyelashes.
CHEMOTHERAPY Recipients with full or partial hair loss.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
MAY I CHOOSE THE COLOR AND SHAPE? Nothing is done without your approval. First, we work with you to design the most attractive style and shape based on your facial features and personal preference. Then, individualized colour is mixed according to your skin tone. We have a large variety of colours from which all different shades of colours can be mixed.
WHAT IF I WANT TO CHANGE THE COLOR AFTER THE PROCEDURE? Permanent makeup works to enhance your natural beauty so that you look good all the time. It is applied in the skin and you can always apply conventional makeup over it to change your look for the day.
DOES THE PIGMENT POSE ALLERGY PROBLEMS? There have been very few reactions to the pigments in Permanent Makeup history. Some doctors recommend that people with allergies have permanent cosmetic procedures because they can avoid cosmetic products that they are sensitive to. If your medical history shows you are highly allergic to many substances, a patch test is suggested.
IS IT PAINFUL? Topical anaesthetic ointment is very effective for our procedures. Everyone experiences pain differently. Most people experience some discomfort, from very mild to moderate, comparable to tweezing. This varies according to each individual’s pain threshold
HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE? Times vary with each individual. It takes an experienced technician an average of one hour for each procedure.
WHAT’S THE RECOVERY TIME? You can go back to work right after the procedure. But you will have some swelling on the lip and eyeliner. The colour looks 40-50% stronger than the final result. It takes about 4 to 6 days for the skin to completely heal.
HOW WILL I LOOK IMMEDIATELY AFTER? The colour will look darker and more defined for the first week. After one week, the intensity will soften about 50% to 60%. Detailed aftercare instructions are provided and reviewed before and after each procedure.
CAN I GET MY PERMANENT MAKEUP CHEAPER? It saves you money and embarrassment to do it right the first time. This is not a time to shop for the lowest price, especially for something that is going to be permanent on your face! There are many technicians who have had inadequate training who are performing these services. There are also many cheap, poor quality pigments available on the market. These pigments do not stay where they have been applied. They are thin and can migrate under the skin. Like most services, you get what you pay for.
IS IT REALLY PERMANENT?" Technically, permanent cosmetics procedures are considered permanent because the colour is implanted into the upper reticular part of the dermal layer of the skin and cannot be washed off. However, as with any tattoo, fading can and often does occur, requiring periodic maintenance, colour re-enhancement or colour re-freshing. Just like hair colour, furniture that may be located near a window, or even house paint, pigment implanted in skin may fade with time. It is important to consider this and all aspects of the procedure when selecting a potential permanent cosmetic makeup technician.
WHAT IF I DON'T LIKE IT? Although the procedure is considered permanent, these procedures do have flexibility in changing colour and shape to some extent, depending on the expertise of your technician. Colours will appear darker immediately following the procedure but will soften and lighten during the healing process. The healing time is different for each individual and procedure.
WHAT'S A TOUCH-UP AND DO I NEED ONE? A touch-up is a colour re-enhancement. Almost always the implanted colour is not perfect after the first procedure. These procedures are processes and at least one follow-up to the initial procedure should be scheduled. It is recommended that you do not traumatize the skin again for a minimum of four weeks.
IS IT SAFE? If proper sterilization and sanitary guidelines are met, permanent cosmetics should be completely safe. These guidelines include the following:
All needles should be new and sterile for each client. I use only disposable needles and machine parts.
Gloves should be new for each client and changed during the procedure when needed.
Technician should be clean and neat.
Clean sheets should be used for each client.
Treatment area should be in an area free from other contaminants.
Pre-Procedure Instructions
When scheduling an appointment date for a permanent makeup procedure, keep in mind, you will need a few days afterward without social plans or strenuous activity. You will not look your best (swelling, oozing & intense colour) so plan activities at home.
Do not have a procedure right before going on holiday because 1) you need healing time, 2) you may not be able to avoid sun, wind, or other items listed in aftercare instructions, 3) if you had a question or problem it would be best to be near your permanent makeup artist.
Do not wear your good clothes for the procedure because pigment might splatter on them. Pigment washes out of most clothes, but not your favourite ones. Wear something comfortable.
Antihistamines taken before the procedure may reduce swelling and help you relax. May also help eyes not be so watery during eyeliner procedures. Watery eyes can dilute the pigment that is being implanted.
Eyebrow swelling is mild and barely noticeable. Eyeliner swelling is moderate. Lip colour swelling is noticeable. Arnica may reduce swelling. It is rare to have a healing problem with permanent makeup.
Any form of hair removal, bleaching or tinting should be performed at least 48 hrs pre procedure or 2 weeks post procedure.
Please do not wear your contact lenses during or after the procedure until swelling has completely subsided. Remember to bring your glasses.
If you have a history of cold sores or fever blisters, it is recommended to visit your GP prior to any lip procedures for prescribed oral medication. Failure to do so will result in a herpes simplex break out and destroy your permanent lip colour.
EYELINER
Do not wear contact lenses during the procedure or for 24 hrs after.
Bring sunglasses to wear home. Eyes may be light sensitive.
Do not dye or perm lashes for 2 days prior and two weeks after.
If you have had any type of eye surgery, consult with your physician about how long you should wait before having a permanent eyeliner procedure.
EYEBROWS
Do not tweeze, wax, or dye brows for 2 days prior and two weeks after.
Electrolysis should not be done for a week prior and three weeks after.
LIPS
If you get cold sores you will need an antiviral prescription. Physicians usually instruct to begin taking it 3 days before procedure and continue for 7-10 days after.
If you have had any type of lip surgery, consult your physician about how long you should wait before having a permanent makeup procedure on the lips.
Post-Procedure Instructions
Cold packs may be used to reduce swelling and soothe the heat in the tattooed area. Cooling a skin wound is beneficial; freezing it is not. Using refrigerator temperature cold packs is safer for damaged skin than freezer temperature cold packs. The traumatized tissue is already in a delicate condition and can get frost damage.
Slight cooling of the skin every couple of hours the first day after a permanent makeup procedure can be done by applying wet tea bags, cloths, or gel compresses that were placed in the refrigerator (not freezer) in a zip lock bag. Cotton disks wet in ice water may also be used.
Try not to fiddle too much and let it heal naturally in its own time. Keep moist with healing ointment at all times while outer healing occurs. Bactroban is recommended or any other anti-bacterial eye ointment.
A permanent makeup procedure is the equivalent of a skin-deep wound - like a scratch you might get around the house. Expect it to ooze a little, scab a little, and heal in a similar time frame.
Notify your permanent makeup artist or physician at first sign of allergic reaction or infection. If you suspect a problem is developing, the first thing to do is switch the type of ointment you are using. The ointment is often causing the problem. If a product stings or burns when you apply it do not use it. An occasional slight healing itch is normal.
Avoid strenuous activity for 2 days as this can increase swelling. Also, sweat running into a wound stings and can cause an infection.
No Scrubbing. Do not rub, wipe, or scratch area. Use patting motions only. Do not peel or pick at crust, this could cause pigment loss, scarring, and delayed healing.
Keep area clean. Blot or rinse off oozing. Do not use any kind of cleansing agent i.e. soap, facial cleanser, make-up remover etc. Only water and healing ointment.
Do not expose the area to full pressure of the shower. You don’t want the water to beat on it, but water will not erase the tattoo despite the myths being told. Not keeping it clean sets it up for infection. Clean it with warm water and keep ointment on it. Scabs that dry out take longer to heal off.
Do not expose to sun or tanning bed while healing. Use of sun block after healing is completed will help prevent premature fading.
Do not swim in fresh, salt, or chlorinated water for 2 weeks or do not get face wet.
Do not apply any cosmetics over area while healing. Do not use mascara until outer healing is complete, eyelashes may be tinted one week prior to having the eyeliner done.
The touch up is not done any sooner than 1 month after the first procedure. Performing a touchup too early could cause scarring. Some colors (especially eyebrow colors) take that long or longer to see how they are going to settle in and look.
LIPS
Lips will ooze for a couple of days. Blot and reapply ointment. After sleeping, crust will have dried on the lips. Rinse with water or put more ointment on to loosen crust, blot and reapply ointment. Most tissues like the ones you blow your nose with will leave lint on the lips. Use something stronger and lint-free like a soaking wet cloth.
Lips will be tender at first. Drink through a straw. Choose foods you can place in your mouth with a fork without touching lips.
On the third day, lips stop oozing and start peeling. This is when the chapped lip feeling is strongest. You may relieve the lips by lightly massaging them with ointment. The massage relieves the chapped feeling for several hours, then it returns, and you can massage again.
Lips will peel for a few days. Other than the massage mentioned above, allow it to flake off on its own. Picking and pulling off skin that is not ready to come off will cause pigment loss and can pull out deeper tissue.
Try to keep toothpaste off lips while healing.
During the peeling process it may look like there is not much color there. Color is more apparent by the second week. Final result is only judged after 1 month.
If lips feel very dry you may apply Vitamin E cream.
HEALING TIME
Permanent makeup will appear extremely intense and thick immediately after the procedure. Excess pigment sheds off over the next 2-3 days, and then the skin starts healing over. A layer of healed skin on top of the pigment masks and tones it down considerably. On about the fourth day you are close to looking normal and no one notices anything. Colors will continue to soften over the next few weeks. OUTER HEALING completes in about 3-6 days for eyes, 7-10 days for lips. INNER HEALING completes in 1 month

Treatments
Eyebrows
The eyebrows are the most important and expressive features on your face. Shaped properly they will look natural and they can give your face a natural face lift that can take years off your look. Whether your eyebrows are sparse, thin, too short or shapeless, they can look just like you were born with a perfect pair of eyebrows. Soft, subtle and beautiful eyebrows can be created. You can choose colour and any shape to best match your face
Lips
The Procedure can modify and enhance the size and shape of your lips as well as the colour. From very natural to dramatic, any colour can be used. Most lip colours chosen are soft shades that compliment your skin tone. When adding a gloss over our colour it seems even brighter. You can always apply more dramatic lipstick colour for any special look. Wouldn’t you just love to wake up with natural rosy pink full lips? Well, permanent cosmetics can make it happen
Eyeliners
The eyes are called the window of your soul. They give expression and are always a focal point. Some clients like a soft natural look while others prefer to make a more dramatic statement. Whatever your preference is, eyeliner is a must. Every client has a different eye shape, some are small, others big and round while some have that perfect almond shape. Properly applied eyeliner can make a small eye look bigger, but too much can make eyes look even smaller. Eyeliner can make far-apart eyes closer and close eyes far-apart. Depends on where and how much you put, a small amount of eyeliner makes a great difference to the way your eyes look. Eyeliner should enhance and define the shape of the eyes, bring out the natural eye colour, give lift, make the lashes look thicker and create a more youthful appearance

1) What to do for cramping while running
If there is one thing every runner dreads for is the possibility of a leg cramp. Which could be time altering. So everybody has their favourite cramp theory and their favoured remedy but lets consider some facts first.
Cramp is more common in males than in females
Cramp is associated both with the duration and intensity of exercise: the further and the faster the more likely cramp is to occur.
Onset of cramp is usually after 30km in a distance race, regardless of running speed.
Cramp during exercise is almost always in the large muscles that span two joints: the hamstrings, quadriceps and calf muscles.
Cramps are often initiated by a change in speed, gradient or running surface. A classic example is cresting a hill and then accelerating downhill or running on to grass after hours on the tar.
Some people are simply more cramp-prone than others.
Tips:
Stretch regularly: increased muscle flexibility might help to counteract cramp. When cramp strikes, stretch it out. You have to unlock the muscle from its contractile circuit.
Be very cautious when changing speed or gradient in the latter stages of a race. Fatigued muscle cannot readily adapt to the changing demands made upon it.
What to do if it cramps:
a) Try slowing down on the onset of the cramp it might disapear
b) The best thing to do is to stretch the area that’s cramping for 60sec and then slowly release it, one should do this till the cramp has gone.
c) Massage the area
d) One can also spray one of the ice sprays, and slow down ones paces

iridology

WHAT IS IRIDOLOGY? Iridology is the scientific analysis of patterns and structures in the iris of the eye which locates areas and stages of inflammation throughout the body. The iris is the portion of the eye showing color. It reveals body natural strengths and weaknesses, health levels.
HOW DOES IT WORK? The complex iris is composed of hundreds of thousands of nerve endings which are connected by impulses to every tissue of the body through the brain and nervous system. The nerve fibers, respond specifically to tissue and organ conditions with a corresponding physiological reflex manifested in the iris as lesions and color variations. The iris chart, which is the result of many years of clinical observation and intensive research by Dr. Bernard Jensen and others, represents the basic placement of body organs and tissues similar to a map.
WHAT WILL IT SHOW? A complete iris analysis will show whether a person exhibits a generally good constitution or a poor one, depending upon the density of the iris fibers, The patterns, structures, colors and degrees of lightness and darkness in the iris tell if an area of the body isnaturaly strong or weak. It also reveals the relative site of over-activity, irritation, injury or degeneration of the tissues and organs. Toxic accumulation levels can he observed as well as nutritional and chemical imbalances.
WHAT WILL IT NOT SHOW? Iridology will not show or name a specific disease but provides information about the body tissues which indicate tendencies toward conditions of "dis-ease", often before symptoms appear. Iridology will not reveal surgery performed under anesthesia as nerve impulses are discontinued. Iridology cannot locate parasites, gallstones, or germ life, but will indicate the presence of inflammation and toxic conditions which are a refuge for their development. It will not show pregnancy, as that is a normal function of the female body

An overall treatment for the face and neck. This deeply relaxing treatment combines tiny electrical currents to tone the muscles of the face and to gently encourage the skin cells to function more efficiently.
